Sunrise with my D500 and Tamron 150-600

As I drove to work Tuesday morning, I noticed the sun rising behind the numerous wind turbines near the Colorado-Wyoming border. I made a mental note to prepare my Nikon D500 with Tamron 150-600 lens to see how the combination performed under the harsh contrast of a cloudless sunrise.

Wednesday morning arrived and I ventured out early to ensure I could find a safe place to park my car near the vantage point I wanted. Off a dirt frontage road I found my answer as the sun began to peak behind the hill of turbines. I spun through a few settings settling upon ISO 200 and a mix of different shutter speeds and apertures to test the range of my camera-lens combination.

I chose to display a mixture of my captures in these five photos. I added a small amount of adjustments in Lightroom like +10 vibrance, sharpening with a mask, and a little noise reduction.

Comparing the D500 with D750 on very high ISO shooting

For full-frame Nikon shooters the combination D750 with Nikon 85mm f/1.8 lens is a staple for portrait shooting. Nikon 60mm f/2.8 Micro Nikkor

My friend John from Western Wind Photography challenged me to go out tonight and shoot some macro shots with my new (new to me) Nikon 60mm f/2.8 Micro Nikkor lens. I’ve read many reviews stating this lens was one of the sharpest in the 50-60 mm range under $250. I had to give it a try. I looked around at the and saw many things to shoot but a new world opened up to me when I started to get uncomfortably close. I switched to manual focus mode racked it to the closest setting and placed the lens almost on top of some dandelions and pine tree. You can judge the quality for yourself. I, for one, am really impressed with the sharpness and how close you can get to an object. Needless to say, I won’t be photographing any wasps.
